You need to have someone good with grammar read over your essay, use fewer rhetorical questions, and spend less time talking about WHY you chose this topic and spend more time talking about the topic itself, unless your assignment specifically asks you to discuss why you chose your topic. Also say “in my opinion” and “I believe” kind of things less– if you back up your opinions with facts, you won’t need to qualify them.

No license required as long as there is no pay involved, ie carrying passengers.
Unfortunately, there is no requirement for brains either. Lots of people load up the boat with beer, ice and children and off they go. Please make yourself knowledgeable before you go out, so that you will come back.

Sailboats do not actually go against the wind using their sails. They tack at an angle in a zig zag method so that they use the sails to catch the wind and push them in an angle in the general direction of the wind.

This takes a much longer time to get anywhere, that is why sailing ships took so much time and why we do not use sailing ships for much more than pleasure today.

sorry, that size of boat generally doesn’t do well with decking. I fished all over the state of Louisiana in jonboats just like that, we did just fine, as long as nobody stood up.

I would think 30 would be sufficient on an 8 foot boat..MinnKota is a good one, and can be bought at any Walmart…I have a 50 on my 18 foot boat, and it is almost too much, unless I run it on the lowest setting….I had a small piroque at one time, and it had a 30. My bf cut the shaft, and mounted it on a swivel on the back, and ran cables from a “Tee” to foot pedals. He extended the wires where the on/off and speed controls were right beside the seat…The motor could kick up, if it hit something underwater, and it worked out very nice…(I’m on his computer today, and I hope he does not find out)

Operating a motoized vessel requires a certificate of boating safety if you were born after 1976, in most states. There is no rule for sailing, I would probably take a motor if sailing on the ocean to get back to where I started, especially if new to sailing.
How large is the catamaran? Motor mount? Where are you planning on sailing? Currents? There are many questions.

Not stable enough, unless you are a midget. You need to sit down because of the 31″ beam. I doubt that the jon boat will have enough displacement to carry all this stuff.

If you can get another one like yours, make a catamaran out of the two of them.

You can only do so much with what you have. I have caught a lot of fish out of a boat like you have. Enjoy it and save some money for a bigger boat.

it all depends on your own weight and the weather conditions. Aunother important factor is the depth or how much your boat draws… the more water that your boat draws, the more stable it would be. overall it should be stable enogh as long as you have suffiient weight in the back to equal roughly your own so that the bow does not dip.

Probably not, It’s too short and too narrow. The added weight , especially in the bow, will cause it to be overloaded and top heavy. You will be creating an unsafe boat. Check the capacity plate that lists the maximum weight including passengers, motor and gear and you will see what I mean.
