I have a 14 ft fiberglass jon boat that I just ripped the carpet out of. Now, all I have is bare fiberglass (well adhesive is still there, but I’m about to remove it). I’m restoring this boat and am trying to give it a “wood” look. I’d like to install some type of wood planks. How can I do this? Can I just buy a bunch of planks, cut them to fit, seal them, and install directly on the fiberglass to make a new floor/deck?
Should i put plywood over the stringers, then planks such as teal or mahogany on top of the plywood? Or, stringers, then just overlay directly with planks? Just want to be sure. Also, should the stringers go vertically with the boat, or horizontally? Thanks a lot.

why do jon boats have carpet in them?

I have a 42 catamaran The walls are rough fiberglass. I tried to smooth them withvarious epoxy type products, but realize its over my head I want to put up some wall paper/covering. I need to keep it very light wieght. I considered carpet squars, but they weigh 2.5 lbs each. This boat needs to be very light in order to remain efficient. I have considered cork wall paper with a texture. Id love to use wood, but too heavy, and very detailed fiish work Does anyone know of any good products that would look modern, masculine and professional?

im located in springfield illinois.im selling a 10 foot jonboat in great condition,the year of the boat is older im really not sure also im including a 5 horse outboard motor in great running order the boat and motor have both just been painter deep green and black,no leaks in the boat and it has brown carpet inside it has 3 seats(there built into the boat like benches its a standard jon boat thing i guess..no trailer it fits in the back of a small pickup with about a foot hangin from the back my email is jfiller@att.net email for more questions(motor is 2 stroke)dont know the modle or year but il tell you this they both look good and there great for 1 to 2 people on small lakes(wont be safe on really choppy water) atleast im not gunna find out but the little thing boogus with the 5 hores …i dont have any pics but i promiss you its not a bad buy.
