Best Place on Eastern Seaboard for Single Professional?

I am thinking of relocating to the East Coast, because I like how people are more social and friendly on the east coast, as opposed to the independant, socially-inept west. :)

I was wondering what cities/towns would be good choices for a single professional in early 30s. Need close access to sailing (ocean or lakes), but also would ideally like hiking to be available withing a day’s drive, if possible. Culture, excellent food/nightlife, standard of living are all important. I like the friendly sophestication of Miami and Europe because they also social/enjoy being with others. Of course, a pool of eligible gentlement would be important, not just a family atmosphere. Essentially, vibrant and friendly with future.

Of couse, Miami, Atlanta, NYC are possibilities.

But there are many great towns that I just don’t know about. What do you think? I have heard that Charleston, SC may be good. Other towns in Florida? What is Jacksonville like? Destin? Other towns in GA

Information on North Carolina cities for relocating single professional?

Thinking of relocating to NC. Which city is best for culture, good restaurants/night life, professional development, proximity to sailing, and a drive away from hiking? I am a professional in my early/mid 30s. I enjoy sailing and the fun sophistication of Miami and Europe. Does race matter in NC? I am in the US west and deeply miss the friendly and social people on the east coast.

OR would another place on the east coast be better suited?

Is it possible for a manatee to be in an Indiana river – the White River in Indianapolis? I know I saw one.?

I was in my canoe paddling downstream and saw a large ripple, about 2-3 ft high heading towards me, spreading out for 15-20 feet. As I went past the wake, I saw what I first thought was a huge turtle, as a hump became evident. I put on my electric motor and circled, keeping a distance of twenty feet away. No head, no tail, no dorsal fin, and the hump was not a shell, but a smooth, mottled mound. Whatever it was never turned, never dived under, never varied its speed, which was whatever the lowest speed on my motor was. I kept with it for almost twenty minutes. Finally, I had to go back in and no one I talked to about this can think of what it could be. Just read about a manatee in the East River in NY and I realize that the manatee would be much more likely to be on the east coast instead of inland Indiana but….? PS I’ve considered it may have been some ghastly mechanized hoax but , once again….?
